…is no longer. Well not quite yet. He’s still working on it, but the bottom line is that my dad had his knee replaced on the 3rd. He’s still got a long road to recovery ahead of him, and it’s still hurting him like it’s nobody’s business (surgery will do that to you, you know) but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel now.
Surgery lasted just about an hour, which is pretty amazing if you think about it. Apparently the Doc has a reputation for being a quick-draw with the scalpel. Needless to say, he lived up to his rep. A whole knee out and a new one in in a hour? Calamity Jane would be impressed.
As for now, Dad has enough morphine in him to knock out a small donkey. He’s apparently up and moving around-ish. To the bathroom and back sort of thing. He’s hoping to go home today, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a couple more days before they let him go.
Before the surgery he could only bend his knee to about 70 degrees and not quite straight out. Their hoping to get him to 90 and 0 degrees by the time this is all said and done. That said, here’s hoping he can get back to the rearsets on the Honda 600RR! He says he dosen’t want to take the bike on the track if he can do it, but I think he’ll get out there before too long. He should be up and golfing this summer, so the timing of the surgery is spot on.
He was pretty nervous beforehand, but in 6 months, he’ll be walking 18 holes of golf with no pain and I think he’ll realize that this was one of the better decisions he’s made.
Get well soon Pops!
Holy crap, I really do not think you told me about this!
Get well soon Mark!
